How to register to vote

a command to select your name should be entered on the Voters List, which is compiled by your Local Authority.

You are not automatically registered when you are 18 years old.

Everyone should fill out the form.

Starting November 1st, ask to see the Voters List at your local post office, Guard office, library or city or district council office – to see if your name is on the List.
You can check if you are registered at http://www.checktheregister.ie by entering in your Province and then your District / Town Council.
All inhabitants of the Republic of Ireland, irrespective of citizenship or nationality You must be at least 18 years of age on February 15, on the day the Registration takes effect. You also normally have stayed in the State on 1 September of the year before the Register entered into force.

The Live Register is available for inspection at the Council Office, Library, Post Office and Garda Station. The Life List is then used in any election and / or referendum held within the next 12 months.
It is still possible to enroll in the Additional List: up to 14 business days prior to polling day – (deciding annually election by Government)
Additional Enrollment Form (RFA2) is used – this needs to be witnessed by the Guard.
Closing Date for acceptance of Application for Supplements to Voters Register shall be 14 working days prior to the Election and published in local and national newspapers in the context of General Elections and / or Referendum.
Additional Address Changes (RFA3) used – Someone who is on the Live List in one County but now resides in another County may apply for inclusion in
Supplement to the Voters Register in County where he is now a resident. Also, someone who has moved within the County between the Local Electoral Regions may apply for inclusion in the
Supplement to the Voters Register for the Local Electoral District in which they now live. This form of RFA 3 is also worth witnessing at Garda Station.
